1. Soy candles – These are in my judgment better candles then old school paraffin candles. They burn better, burn cleaner and also burn longer. Old-fashioned paraffin candles are known to emit dangerous chemicals when they burn. When you buy a gift for a friend if you would like this gift to be non-harmful. 2. Handmade candles – These are usually just that little bit special. Someone has essentially taken the time to create these by hand and not using some machine. That’s good in my book and so I generally look for these. Handmade candles are best.
3. Long burn times – This is essential to create use of your purchase for the longest time. Again, soy wax candles are the number one choice. Oz. for ounce, soy candles burn for around twice as long as paraffin candles.
4. Terrific scents – Apparent I know but the number of times I've been given scented candles as a present and have thrown them away as they smell dreadful or don’t smell at all! Find those companies that try by giving a terrific range of perfumes.
5. Fascinating colors – This isn’t essential but will help improve the overall experience of burning a top notch candle. I love bright colors and so generally search for this.

6. Quality wicks – This is a hard one but I’ve used scented candles before that are either hard to burn or nay on not possible to keep lit! A terrific wick is crucial to get a terrific burn so I keep an eye out for this. I like non-lead wicks.
7. Nominal packaging – Keep your purchases green. Why purchase those candles that pump up their price with fancy containers or not needed cheesy boxes. Bad for the environment and bad for your pocket.
8. Terrific reviews – Look for terrific reviews by others. It’s sometimes a terrific sign that your purchase has been burned by others. I usually review quality products and sometimes those that aren’t that terrific.
9. Selection of products – Specialist candle makers typically provides a terrific choice of candles. Some bigger firms have their candles manufactured by others and so have a limited range of scents. Look for a broad range of scents and your doubtless having a look at a high quality candle maker.
10. Something that makes you chuckle – If you’re looking for a scented candle, you must bear in mind this is a luxury purchase so those firms that explaining about the candle and a company not trying to change your life are typically talking hot air. Look for a company with a bit of humor and have a terrific time.
